About

Welcome!

dp

Hi, I’m Samia! I am a Sr. Applied Scientist/AI Engineer at Microsoft, a firm believer in continuous learning, growth mindset, helping others, and living a life rich in experiences!

I am working with large-scale distributed systems to create Microsoft’s next wave of intelligent experiences in Office 365 and Outlook. I am also experienced in AI powered vehicle maintenance, where I hold a patent for my Master thesis work.

In my free time, I can be found doing Tech Talks, leading women empowerment efforts, at the gym, learning some new skill, or around the world trying out some crazy adventure!

Why this blog?

Many of my friends and colleagues were (are) either trying to learn Machine Learning or they were planning to start doing so. Observing the challenges they had been facing, I realized that there are so many great resources out there but, most often than not, the explanations tend to be too academic or theoretical. And this is intimidating for starters. So I asked myself, “What am I doing to help out?” This introspection led me to start a blog, but a not so usual onea practical and ‘inspire to make a difference’ blog!

  • The practical part: Via this blog, I want to share what I learn and what I have learned so far. My goal is to write about Machine Learning and Deep Learning in an easy to understand way, with practical end-to-end examples based on interesting datasets (not text book style examples or partial code snippets). Basically, I want you to save time in figuring out things where I have already spent hours. Also, as the famous saying goes: “The best way to learn is to teach”.
  • The inspiring part: Machine Learning can be applied to solve so many real world problems. It can be used as a tool that can help changing lives in a positive way. My hope is to become good enough to be able to solve problems that can make a real difference. With this blog, I hope to empower or inspire others to make a difference. So, you will also find posts about inspiring latest developments/use cases from the ML world.

Disclaimer: I am not claiming to be any top-notch expert in the field. I am just someone on a life-long learning journey. My intention is to help you by sharing knowledge and to learn along the way.

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I regularly post interesting AI related content on LinkedIn. If you want short weekly lessons from the AI world, you are welcome to follow me there!:)
